While many visitors head to the Giftun Islands, seasoned divers and underwater photographers know that the real "treasure hunt" happens at Fanadir. As the longest reef in Hurghada, Fanadir offers a unique topography that acts as a sanctuary for some of the Red Sea’s most elusive and camouflaged creatures.
At Blue Corner Red Sea, we consider Fanadir our "office" for macro enthusiasts. Here is why this site should be at the top of your logbook for February 2026.
Fanadir isn't just one dive; it's a massive reef complex divided into Fanadir North, Fanadir South, and the seemingly endless Fanadir East.
The Main Wall (0–12m): A shallow, vibrant wall filled with cracks and small caves.
The Sandy Plateau (12–22m): This is where the magic happens. A wide, sloping shelf that hosts cleaning stations and hidden "critters."
The Deep Drop-off (25m+): For the more adventurous, the plateau ends in a dramatic plunge into the blue, where you might spot passing tuna or the occasional reef shark.
Fanadir is world-famous among the diving community for its Macro Life. If you have a keen eye (or a Blue Corner guide), you can spot:
Stonefish & Scorpionfish: Fanadir is arguably the best place in the Red Sea to find the world’s most venomous—and best hidden—fish.
Frogfish: These rare, bulbous hunters are a "holy grail" for photographers. They often perch on coral blocks, perfectly mimicking sponges.
Pipefish: Thousands of these tiny relatives of the seahorse inhabit the reef wall.
The Rare Stargazer: Occasionally found buried in the sandy plateau, with only their eyes and grumpy mouths visible.
Because Fanadir is protected from the northerly winds, the water is almost always calm and the currents are mild. This provides the perfect "studio" conditions for:
Steady Macro Shots: No fighting against heavy surges while trying to focus on a 2cm nudibranch.
Cleaning Station Action: Numerous moray eels (Giant, Yellowmouth, and Snowflake) frequent the cleaning stations here, providing amazing opportunities for "yawning" shots as cleaner shrimp do their work.
We believe that a site like Fanadir deserves time. We don't rush you.
Price: Included in our Daily Diving Trip ($45).
Night Diving: Fanadir transforms at night. It is our top recommendation for a Night Dive, where you can see Spanish Dancers and hunting octopuses.
Expert Guides: Our instructors are trained to find the "hidden" life that others miss. We turn a standard dive into a fascinating biological safari.
Don't just dive—discover. Book your next daily trip to Fanadir with us and bring your camera!
